DIY Faux Fur Lamp Shade

Several months ago, Sissy had seen a faux fur lampshade and said she would love to have one.  Being the frugalista that I am, I refused to pay $59 for a new lamp that looks just like her existing desk lamp.

And here is our faux fur lampshade.

Looks the same, right!!  And it only cost me about $8.00 for the fur.  I needed 2 yards {to make sure I had enough} and I just pulled out my sewing scissors and glue gun.  We already had the lamp, I bought it about two years ago, but Target has their Stick lamp with a white drum shade on sale right now for $17.59….and it comes with a CFL bulb to boot.  Here’s how we did it.
Supplies
  • Faux fur trim {I used trim sold in the trim isle at JoAnn’s instead of on a bolt.  Sissy didn’t like anything on the bolt}
  • Lamp shade
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun
Directions
1.  Gather your supplies

2.  Lay the lamp shade next to the fur trim to measure the length needed.  I didn’t actually measure, I just eyeballed it.  Add an extra inch at the top and the bottom for turning to the inside of the shade.

3.  Apply hot glue to the wrong side of the fur piece, making sure the glue is around the perimeter and zig zags across the middle.

4.  Apply the fur pieces to the lamp shade until the entire shade is covered.  Depending on the diameter of your shade, you may need to cut the last piece of fur into a smaller vertical strip.

5.  Now to glue the top and bottom down.  If you have more than 1 inch at the top or bottom, trim the excess to an inch.

6.  Then apply the glue along the edge of the trim and roll it to the inside of the shade.

7.  If you have an excess of fur sticking out, carefully trim the fur to shorten.

8.  Put the shade back on the lamp….and enjoy it in your room!

Hope you all are having a great day….I’ve been busy working on projects, so I hope to share some more soon!
